tinker-bell-movie After years of waiting, Tinker Bell gets her own movie on Walt Disney Home Entertainment DVD and Disney Blu-ray.

Born into the fantastic world of Pixie Hollow, Tinker Bell thinks her fairy talent as a tinker isn’t as special or important as the other fairies’ talents. But when Tink tries to change who she is, she creates nothing but disaster!  With encouragement from her friends, Rosetta, Silvermist, Fawn, and Iridessa, Tink learns that the key to solving her problems lies in her unique tinker abilities and then discovers when she is true to herself, magical things can happen.

When the Tinker Bell movie was announced back in 2006, there was a mixture of excitement and uneasiness as Disney’s beloved fairy, with an attitude, was finally getting her own movie.  Why was she going to talk?  How would Brittney Murphy sound as Tinker Bell?   Aside from the obvious merchandising tie-ins, was there any value to the movie and was the Tinker Bell character going to be treated with the respect it deserves?

The answer to these questions is...mostly yes...

When Pixar merged with the Disney Company, John Lasseter, took one look at the Tinker Bell film and shook his head.  A complete rewrite then went underway including the casting of a new voice for Tinker Bell, Mae Whitman.  While one could only imagine what a disastrous mess the original film was, this one succeeds where it needs to, and connects with its core audience, young girls -- ages 5-9.

While the girls eat up all the new fairies and all the special talents, the parent and adult are not left out in the dark.  What they are left with is a very good quality computer-animated film that makes you appreciate what John Lasseter put into the film, with a great color palette, and likeable characters.

Like the other great Disney Blu-ray releases this October, Tink Bell takes advantage of the new format - lifting the Tinker Bell movie to new levels; including a crisp amaphoric picture with saturated black levels never seen before on its DVD release. The Blu-ray also boasts a Dolby 5.1 uncompressed PCM soundtrack which truly brings the wonderful sounds of Pixie Hollow to life.

Aside from the impressive film, the Blu-ray features Disney Live which also allows you to connect to friends and watch the film together (online connection and Blu-ray 2.0 required), an assortment of Tinker Bell games to entertain the little ones, and a music video performed by Wizard’s of Waverly place star, Selena Gomez.
If you were ever interested in fairies , Tinker bell, or have young children at home, this is the one DVD you must own this holiday season.
