Disney’s, A Bug’s Life, one of the first films to put Pixar studios on the map, is coming to Blu-ray 11 years after its initial release.  The movie is centered around a young inventor ant named Flik.  Flik gets himself in trouble when he accidentally destroys an offering of seeds to the oppressing grasshoppers.  The grasshoppers vow to destroy the ant colony if they return and there is not double the amount of food.  He then sets off to find warrior bugs to return with him in hopes of saving the  colony.   Ironically, what he thinks are warrior bugs, turn out to be circus bugs!   With no time to waste, Flik leads the circus bugs in a battle to save his colony.

The name Pixar is synomomis with quality, and make no mistake, this Blu-ray lives up to the Pixar name;  posted a beautiful 1080p digital Pixar that simply makes the world of Flik come to life.   Since this is a digital-to-digital release (no inbetween layer of rendering film), the movie is picture perfect and exactly as Pixar intended to show A Bug’s Life to the world.

The release also sports a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio which will make every timid household member squirm as the sounds of the bug world come to life.

Aside from the best release to date of A Bug’s Life, Disney has also included a “bee hive” full of special features to commerate this release,  including a special introduction from director, John Lasseter, the “Filmmakers Round Table” feature, in which the creative minds behind the movie discuss Life’s journey from story to screen.  Plus, see the animation process from the beginning stages in the feature “A Bug’s Life: The First Draft” (also included is a special introduction by director, John Lasseter).

As it has now become a standard with Disney releases, also included with the Blu-ray, is a DisneyFile Digital Copy of the film so you may copy it to your favorite portable media player and take Flick and friends with you wherever you may go.

Even 11 years after this film’s release, this continues to be one of Pixar’s finest and most entertaining movies.  This is a movie that both children and adults can enjoy together while remembering that it is always “tough to be a bug”.
