Walt Disney Company To Slash Jobs at Miramax Films

According to the L.A. Times, The Walt Disney Co.has decided to drastically cut back on jobs at the their Miramax Films company. included in the cut backs, are the amount of film to be released by the company each year.

70% of the jobs at Miramax will be slashed, leaving the company with 20 jobs to be spared from 70 that exist now.  They will now only be releasing a total of 3 film a year, with a total of 12 to be released from Walt Disney Co. in a year.

The recent cutbacks come swift after the retirement of Disney Studios Chairman Dick Cook. It is said that he was pressured to leave by Bob Iger, who didn't like the direction that the studio was taking. 

Walt Disney Studios President Alan Bergman said in a statement that "This restructuring maximizes operating efficiencies and provides significant cost savings while allowing Miramax to focus on its greatest strength: the creation of high-quality entertainment".
