Dinosaur Overview

In Disney's Animal Kingdom Dinosaur travel back 65 million years to the Cretaceous period in search of an Iguanodon dinosaur.
Your time rover will race through a meteor shower and come face to face with some rather large dinosaurs.
While in the queue guests will go through several different multimedia shows about dinosaurs.
As you walk through the turnstiles you enter the Institute's Briefing Room. A live video conference is in progress hosted by Dr. Helen Marsh.
Dr. Marsh introduces you to the Time Rover, your transportation vehicle back to the time period of the dinosaurs.
After the breifing is over guests board a twelve passenger, all terrain vehicle, fasten your seat belt and you are on your way.
Guests with back and neck conditions are advised not to ride Dinosaur. This attraction is a fast paced ride with many sharp turns.
Dinosaur History

Dinosaur was created as a headline attraction for Disney's Animal Kingdom. The ride is a
combination track ride and motion simulator, using the same techonology as the Indiana Jones
ride in Disneyland.
According to Walt Disney Imagineers, Dinosaur features the most exciting audio-animatronic figures
ever created. Throughout the experience amazed riders come face to face with
iguanodon, pterodactyl, compsognathers, alioramous and the show's big bad guy,
the carnotaurus.
"We chose the carnotaurus because we know so much about him," said Malmlund. "A
near complete skeleton of the carnotaurus was uncovered in Argentina, but the
discovery was particularly unique in that when the dinosaur fell, his skin left
an impression in the mud so we know that his hide was rough and covered in bumps
and knobs. "The carnotaurus in Dinosaur is larger than his ancestors and his features, as with some of the other animatrons, were
exaggerated.
Dinosaur opened on April 22,1998 on Animal Kingdom's openeing day. Initially the ride was known as "Countdown to Extinction"
and it was a very fast paced ride with many fast turns. Then during the summer of 2000, Walt Disney Picture's released a new movie called "Dinosaur". To help cross promote the park and the movie
the attraction went through a few changes. It was "toned down" to change the height requirments and the name changed to "Dinosaur"
The main character from Disney's new feature film, an Iguanadon, was also put into the attractions story line.

Dinosaur Trivia
- Dinosaur has some of the largest audio-animatronic figures created to date.
- Some of the dinosaurs you will see in the ride include: Saltasaurus, Parasaurolophus, Alioramus, and Styracosaurus.
- The meteor effects inside Dinosaur are done by combining a chasing fiber optic effect, with a small, non-pyrotechnic puff of smoke and xenon strobe flash on the "ground". This creates the look of a meteor falling from the sky and exploding. This is the same fiber optic chasing effect as used in some sidewalk tiles in Epcot, as well as the Norway flume ride "Troll dust".
- Dinosaur uses the same ride technology, Enhanced Motion Vehicles (EMV), as the Indiana Jones Attraction in Disneyland.
Dinosaur Hidden Mickeys
- At Chester and Hester's Dinosaur Treasures, look closely at the Mr. Imagination cement dinosaur sculpture just outside the store. On the right side of the dino's neck is a gold Steamboat Willie pin.
- At the entrance, examine the wall mural depicting Florida's cretateous-era wildlife. Look on the bark of the painted tree in the far left background.
- Under the wall mural look for three "floating" water lilies.
- At the photo-imaging pick-up, don't miss the Carnotaurus wall mural. Look closely at the shadow under a fold in the dinosaur's lower jaw.
