Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Overview

Walt Disney World Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, located near The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror on Sunset Boulevard, is a thrilling rollercoaster ride that lets you experience nearly 5Gs. The attraction begins with a tour of the fictional G-Force Records, where guests will encounter Aerosmith finishing up a studio recording session. After being invited by the band to see them in concert, guests will then climb aboard a 24-passenger "stretch limo" and swiftly accelerate into the Hollywood night.

Onboard speakers play selected tracks specially recorded by Aerosmith for the ride while the coaster speeds through loops, corkscrews and numerous turns in semi-darkness.

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster History

Walt Disney World Walt Disney Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Air View Following the huge success of Disneyland Paris Space Mountain the Disney Company decided it need a more thrilling indoor rollercoaster than their current Space Mountain. When it came to decided what park to introduce the new ride in Disney-MGM studios seemed like a perfect fit since it needed another E-Ticket ride besides the Tower of Terror.

Originally dubbed the Rock' Roller, early plans for this attraction called for riders to climb aboard a train resembling a '57 Chevy, then be catapulted through the "O" in the Hollywood mountain sign. Disney decided that the project should be enlarged and the concept changed to what Rock 'n' Roller Coaster is today. A few months into the project's design The Walt Disney Company approached Aeromsith and asked them if they would like to be part of the ride, since the rock group is known to many as the kings of Rock and Roll.

Walt Disney World Rock n Roller Coaster Construction Disney broke ground on Rock 'n' Roller Coaster in February 1998 with an aggressive schedule to open in 1999. One of the ways this accelerated schedule was accomplished was by contracting the entire rollercoaster design to Vekoma International. Vekoma was also responsible for designing Disneyland Paris's Space Mountain rollercoaster.

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, opened to guests on August 1, 1999, as part of the largest property-wide expansion in Walt Disney World history.

  • The coaster was built first, then the building was constructed around it.
  • The limos go from 0-57 mph in 2.8 seconds.
  • As you enter the first inversion the G-Force is between 4 and 5.

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Hidden Mickeys

  • The Track itself for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster is in fact a giant Mickey Mouse.
  • The first room that the queue enters from outdoors is round w/ artists' posters on the walls. This room enters another room with beads instead of glass in the double doors. Just before you step over the threshold thru the double doors, on the floor there's 2 sets of 3 perfect little circles about 30-40 inches apart from each other (it's 2 hidden Mickeys). According to the imagineers their proportions are the best the tile guys could do.
  • The electric box on the right side of the launch position has the letters, "MIC (space) E".
  • On the ride itself, about halfway through, after passing under the "Civic Center/I-5" exit sign and before the "Beverly Hills/I-10" sign, you pass under a scene with a red stretch limo and a cityscape. In the middle near the top of that scene, there is a yellow diamond traffic sign that appears to disney a Mickey.
  • At the entrance, check out the main balcony just before you go inside to spot a hidden Mickey.

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Reviews

When I hit up Hollywood Studios at Disney World, the two rides I ride the most are Aerosmith's Rock 'n' Roller coaster and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Since these rides are in such close proximity, I jump back and forth between them both. This is one of the coolest rides in the park for sure. Riders start off in the lobby of the hotel where they end up in a little meeting room where a caretaker tells the story of the old service elevator of the Hollywood Hotel which claimed the lives of five people. Riders board the elevator from the basement's boiler room and ride up to the fifth dimension. After a tour of the crazy places this phantom elevator rides through riders are dropped down a large shaft to experience zero gravity g-forces.

Aerosmith's Rock 'n' Roller Coaster is the absolutely best coaster at Disney World. That thing is so crazy! It stars off with a tour of Aerosmith's recording studio where you're watching Steve and the boys recording some tracks before they have to get over to a show. Realizing that it's almost show time, they ask everyone in the studio if they would like to attend. This leads everyone out of the back entrance to the studio into Aerosmith's limo that rockets out of the alley at 60 mile per hour in less than three seconds! Riders whip around crazy turns, through blinding loops, and down exciting drops all indoors in a warped city decorated in black light paint and crazy street signs. You make it to the venue all with time to spare. Aerosmith fans get their favorite Aerosmith tunes blaring through the speakers in the head rests on the vehicles.

The theming may not be as good as some of the other Disney thrill rides, but this is still a fun ride that is well designed.
