The Great Movie Ride History
The Great Movie Ride basically evolved from the Epcot movie pavilion, The Great Movie Ride is an offshoot of what the original Epcot attraction was supposed to be.
"The idea for the Studios theme park was due in part to a pavilion that was planned for Epcot.
Disney Imagineers planned a pavilion for Future World focusing on the movies and Hollywood. It would have a ride-through attraction, similar to the "Great Movie Ride," and am Audio-Animatronic, behind-the-scenes history of the making of Mickey Mouse cartoons called "Mickey's Movieland."
Not long after he took over as the "Head Mouse" at Disney, Michael Eisner realized the enormous potential for more than just a single pavilion (with maybe a little inspiration from the people at Universal Studios... you know, the ones that were building the theme park up the street...) and Disney-MGM Studios was born."
The Great Movie Ride opened as the flagship attraction of the new park on May 1, 1989.

Brandon, MI, USAOne of the original attractions of the park, the Great Movie Ride holds up well. Sometimes it is overlooked with Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster being there, but this is an impressive ride as well. The Wizard of Oz scene is still classic.

Lalane , USAI thought this ride was great! All of the anamatronic figures were just fabulous, (such as the Witch from the Wizard of Oz scene), and also I liked how our "tour guides" got involved with the movie scenes as well. I liked the part w/ the indiana Jones -type of feel, and how our tour guide was "dissapeared", and turned into a skeleton. This ride was very entertaining and well worth the wait. Oh, and whoever is Warren Taylor From Lancashire, UK, who also wrote a comment about this ride, I have a comment for you, "Why did you say such harsh things about this ride, no one cares if you didn't like it, you obviously need to get a life and go say something nice because this ride was good, and you need to get your head out from underneath your shoe"! Thank you DISNEY, you guys are really something!

Jennifer G., Edgewood, USAA great ride... It is amazing to watch some of the old movie theatical trailers in the queue line. Although my children got frightened during the queue line with the ALIEN theatical trailer, and the ride section on the Nostromo it's self. Other that that it is a great family ride. It also takes us back to some of hollywood's most talked about and famous movies. Disney don't renovate this, it's fine the way it is and it really makes us feel like we are in the movies.... (I cry during the end when they show things from the movie too.)
