Disney Plans Overhaul of Disneyland's California Adventure
10/17/2007 1:49 PM EST
As speculated by Disney journalist, Jim Hill, in July 2007, the Walt Disney Company has announced that will launch a $1 Billion rehab of their California Adventure Park in Anaheim, California. The park cost $1 Billion to build, and has had over $100 Million put into it since its 2001 opening. The park has never gained the popularity that its neighbor, Disneyland has. The company is trying to change that by adding some more references to Walt Disney himself and the growth of his empire.
The new main entrance, which now showcases California landmarks, is rumored to trace the footsteps of Walt Disney's career, from when he arrived in Los Angels in the 1920s. It is also rumored that they will have a replica of the theatre that Disney premiered "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves", the Carthay Circle Theatre in Hollywood. One of the biggest changes will be in the size of the newly upgraded park. It will be expanded by 12 acres, adding more attractions that will include a focus on Pixar films.
Many people complain that the California Adventure Park lacks the "magic" and "imagination", and that it's a park that evokes no emotions. Megan White, an 18 year old season pass holder says, Disneyland is a magical place, but California Adventure is just a theme park you can get anywhere." Even Jay Rasulo, president of the parks admitted that, "Guests have told us that when they stand in California Adventure, they don't have an emotional connection to it."
Bob Weis, a theme park consultant, was hired to help Disney out with some new ideas. Some ideas he is rumored to have is adding a "Little Mermaid" attraction at Paradise Pier as well as a "Toy Story" Ride. A new version of The Mulholland Madness Rise will be opened, featuring Disney characters and it is said that the Maliboomer ride is likely to be removed.
The renovations will take approximately 5 years, and the park will remain open the entire time. Disney's California Adventure Ticket prices will remain unchanged; no discounts will be given during the construction period.
