Disney To Close Miramax Film Unit
2/1/2010 5:55 PM EST
There has been another casualty in The Walt Disney Company. Last week, the company cut Miramax studios loose.
Disney acquired the company back in 1993. It was founded by Bob and Harvey Weinstein in 1979. The studio is responsible for films such as "Clerks", "The English Patient" and "Shakespeare in Love", and was the studio to launch the career of Quentin Tarantino. The Weinstein brothers went on to firm the Weinstein Company in 2005.
Harvey Weinstein commented on the news, saying, "I'm feeling very nostalgic right now. I know the movies made on my and my brother Bob's watch will live on … Miramax has some brilliant people working within the organisation and I know they will go on to do great things in the industry."
