Epcot's The Land Pavilion
The Land Pavilion Overview
The Land opened in 1982 and covers nearly 6 acres of property. It is home to many attractions, such as "Soarin", "Circle of Life", "Living With the Land Boat Ride", and "Behind the Seeds Tour". It is also home to "Chip & Dale's Harvest Feast Garden Grill" restaurant and the Sunshine Seasons Food Court.
The Land is a great mix of learning about eating healthy, how to treat the environment and new ways to grow food and feed the world's growing population.
The Land Pavilion Attractions
"Soarin" is a spectacular ride that takes you on a journey over the beauty of California. You load into the room, filled with giant "glider" type of seating. Before the film begins, you are raised up high off the floor (depending on where you are sitting), and the room goes dark. The film begins and you are whisked away on a flight that takes you over orange groves and forests (that you can actually smell), the Golden Gate Bridge, Redwood forests, Napa Valley, Yosemite, and over the happiest place on Earth, Disneyland. The graceful movement of the "gliders" you are in, in combination with the height of them off the floor, truly makes you feel as if you are flying.
"Circle of Life" is a 20 minute film featuring Simba, Timon and Pumbaa from "The Lion King". The film teaches about environmental responsibility and features animation as well as live action footage.
"Living with the Land Boat Ride" is a 13 minute ride that takes you through a tropical rain forest, an African desert complete with sandstorm, and the windswept plains of a small, turn-of-the-century family farm. During the ride, you learn about Hydroponics and Aeroponics Farming, and Aquaculture. You are shown Disney's fruits, vegetable, and fish farms, which do supply some food to the restaurants. You also see that this is the place where all those Mickey shaped vegetables, such as cucumbers and pumpkins, are grown.
The "Behind the Seeds" Tour is a 45 minute tour that takes you on close up look at the four greenhouses that are a part of "The Land" attraction. Guests are led on the tour by an Epcot Scientist, and are shown many interesting gardening tips and are treated to some special extras such as sprouting a seed in your pocket to bring home, vegetable taste tests and fish feeding.
The Land Pavillion Dining
When you are getting hungry from exploring the large variety of attractions that makes up "The Land" you can either grab something quick to eat at the Sunshine Seasons food court or have a nice relaxing sit down meal at Chip and Dale's Harvest Feast Garden Grill.
Sunshine Season offers "quick service" food. There are four different venues for you to choose from: Asian Wok Shop, Sandwich Shop & Bakery, Soup & Salad Shop, and the Wood-Fired Grill Shop. It should be noted that this food court has many healthy food choices on their menu.
Chip and Dale's Harvest Feast Garden Grill is a family style, sit down, character meal. The restaurant is particularly unique, due to the fact that it is constantly revolving, giving you a constantly changing view. This restaurant offers more of a high end cuisine, but, of course, offers a children's menu as well as some "comfort food" cuisine.
