Epcot's Canada Pavilion
Canada Pavilion Overview
Canada was opened October 1, 1982. It is located between the United Kingdom and the Showcase Plaza. When Walt Disney World first approached Canada about funding the Pavilion, Canada was worried about the stereotypical image that may have been portrayed, so they refused funding. Disney responded by threatening to scrap the Pavilion all together, but obviously that didn't happen. Canada finally agreed.
The showcase features the French aspects of Canada as well as the more mountainous and rural parts. Hotel du Canada is inspired by the Chateau Laurier, an historic hotel in Ottawa, the country's capital city. The beautiful gardens here are inspired by those in Victoria, British Columbia. The Rocky Mountains are portrayed as well; even with a beautiful waterfall and canyon. Native culture on the West Coast is represented here also with totem poles.
Canada Pavilion Dining
Le Cellier Steakhouse is tucked deep in the "lowest level" of the pavilion. It is designed to look like and ancient wine cellar, and is achieved by the low lighting and low ceilings. Le Cellier features a full menu of Canadian fare including prime rib and steaks. If you prefer, maple glazed salmon, rosemary garlic chicken and pasta are some other items available to please your palette. One other item not to be missed is Le Cellier's cheddar cheese soup. Desserts include creme brulee and espresso cheesecake. Beer on hand is Labatt's and Molsen , while wine selections include Inniskillan.
Between Canada and the World Showcase Promenade, you can get a quick bit to eat at the Refreshment Port. They serve up hot dogs, nachos, fresh fruit, frozen yogurt, lemonade and iced tea.
Canada Pavilion Entertainment
In Maple Leaf Mine, "O Canada!" is shown on a Circle Vision 360 degree movie screen. This 18 minute movie shows the Canadian Rockies, Montreal, coastal fishing villages, golden prairies, various Canadian wildlife, and Canada's changing seasons. This is a standing room only theatre, with lean rails. This is to ensure optimum viewing of the 360 degree screen.
Canada Pavilion Shopping
The Northwest Territory Mercantile carries Roots apparel, a Canadian clothing label. You can also pick up such items as plush toys, maple syrup, and Canadian themed collectibles. To add to the Northwest motif, the beams are decorated with hanging ropes, antique ice skates, tin scoops, and lanterns.
La Boutique de Provinces is located inside of the Hotel du Canada. In this shop, you can purchase Anne of Green Gables themed merchandise, pewter gifts, and Canadian handcrafted artistic goods.
